A Coronation Street icon who has been diagnosed with breast cancer has revealed that her mind is “manic” as she prepares to return to work.

Beverley Callard, 68, who played Rovers Return bartender Liz McDonald for three decades on the ITV soap, told RTÉ’s Late Late Show last month that the illness is in its “very early stages”.

Sharing an update following her breast cancer surgery last month, the 68-year-old said that she was “sore everywhere” as she updated fans on her transition back into working life.

“My mind is manic at the moment. I think maybe it’s nerves about going back to work and everything else, but I’m being strong, and I hope you are all as well.”
