This year’s Amazon Prime Day sale and a looming heatwave have arrived at exactly the same time, which is either very good news or very bad news depending on whether you’ve already invested in a decent fan or portable AC. Forecasters are warning that parts of the UK could reach 40C later this week – potentially hotter than Athens – and judging by the temperatures outside, Prime members are wasting little time snapping up cooling appliances.
Now well into the first day of the retailer’s bi-annual sale, the four-day event is delivering discounts across thousands of products, but fans, air conditioners and cooling gadgets are proving particularly tempting. After all, there’s nothing quite like trying to sleep through a sweltering night to convince you it’s time for an upgrade.
I’ve been tracking the sale live and have sifted through dozens of devices to keep things cool and comfortable (no easy feat), including a substantial saving on IndyBest’s favourite smart fan (was £179.99, now £128.24,Amazon.co.uk). Whether you’re looking for a powerful tower fan, a portable air conditioner or simply something to stop your home feeling like a sauna, these are the deals that will keep your space and savings feeling chill.

Duux whisper flex 2: Was £179.99, now £128.24, Amazon.co.uk
Duux’s whisper flex 2 was the best smart fan in our review of the best fans. As a smart fan, you can “control it via the app, remote or even voice assistants, while features such as natural breeze mode and scheduling make it feel more considered than basic models”, explained home appliance tester Joanne Lewsley. Not only does it come with 30 speed settings, it also transforms from a desk to a pedestal fan ‘in seconds’. It’s ‘barely audible’ on the lowest settings, and can be used wirelessly, although you need to buy a battery pack sold separately. Thanks to this Prime Day deal, save nearly 30 per cent. It’s worth noting that the price was already reduced to around £134 ahead of Prime Day, but this is still a good deal.
Dreo smart silent tower fan: Was £99.99, now £84.99, Amazon.co.uk

In the midst of a heatwave, finding a fan that’s a. effective and b. still in stock is near impossible, so to find one that ticks both boxes with a 15 per cent discount – frankly, it’s a miracle. While the IndyBest team hasn’t given this exact model a whirl just yet, appliance expert Joanne Lewsley was impressed by Dreo’s turbo cool misting fan in her guide to the best air coolers, so you can certainly rely on the brand. Plus, with a 20dB noise level (the equivalent of a watch ticking), this smart fan will be a godsend for light sleepers during the hot nights ahead.
Levoit windi mini pro tower fan: Was £89.99, now £71.49, Amazon.co.uk

Reduced by 21 per cent and still in stock despite the heatwave, this Levoit tower fan features a whisper-quiet noise rating. Whether you’re trying to keep little ones cool at night or can’t stand loud noises yourself, this hushed device will help you to sleep easy through the rising temperatures. Interestingly, it’s also suitable for outside use and doubles as a nightlight, so – on the latter front – it’s even better suited to children. While we haven’t tested this model specifically, Levoit has proved popular with a number of IndyBest reviewers, featuring in our guides to the best humidifiers, air purifiers and more.
Duux rize portable fan: Was £79.99, now £49.99, Amazon.co.uk

Reduced by a generous 37 per cent in the Prime Day sale, this is a great cordless fan from Duux. In her review of the best fans, home appliance tester Joanne Lewsley was pleased with its “lightweight 1kg build and a built-in battery that lasts up to 15 hours”, and praised its design that “quickly shifts from a small desk fan to a taller pedestal-style fan”. Plus, she found it “quiet enough to fade into the background” on the lowest settings.
Exnos 3l evaporative air cooler: Was £159.99, now £139.99, Amazon.co.uk

Portable air conditioners are flying off the shelves this week, with lots completely out of stock. While we’ve not tested this brand, I’ve found a £20 saving that’s well worth considering. The 3l remote-controlled air cooler has three speed settings, an oscillating fan option and a timer. You can choose from cooling air, a mist or dry fan options, meaning it should have you covered across the summer and beyond.
Morphy Richards airflex portable oscillating fan: Was £39.99, now £29.99, Amazon.co.uk

While we haven’t tested this fan at IndyBest, we’ve tried and tested plenty of Morphy Richards home appliances (including its S1 pro ductless personal air conditioner), so it’s safe to say this deal is worth a look. The airflex portable oscillating fan is billed for delivering up to 17 hours of use on a single charge, has three speed settings and a foldable, wall-mountable design, and its compact design could be ideal for a desk or bedside table. This Prime Day deal saves you £10.

Given the heatwave, this is a deal not to miss. “The airflow is super strong, far more powerful than most handheld fans I’ve tried”, wrote senior tech critic Alex Lee in his review of the best handheld fans. The fine mist spray “feels like a cold spritz for your face”, and the cooling plate attachment delivers “instant relief when pressed against your neck or wrist’ that feels “like a mini ice pack”, he added.

Here’s a modest discount on a pedestal fan from one of our tried and trusted brands. It has a 12-hour timer function, a remote control for ease. Levoit also claims that it’s especially quiet when operating on the lowest setting. A very similar fan landed a spot in our best fans review, where it was praised by tester Joanne Lewsley for delivering “a noticeable push of air even at a distance, helped by both horizontal and vertical oscillation” and a “steady, smooth breeze without feeling too harsh”, even at lower speeds.
