There are few things more important than getting a good night’s sleep. It’s when our body resets, recovers, and strengthens for the following day, and the best duvets can help you to nod off peacefully.
While there are plenty of habits that can help improve sleep (even if many of us still struggle to stick to the no-screens-before-bed rule) much of it comes down to having the right setup. We’ve already reviewed the best bedding, the best mattress, and best pillows but your choice of duvet plays an equally crucial role. With such a vast range available, at wildly different price points, finding the best duvet can feel overwhelming – which is where I come in.
One of the biggest factors affecting price is the type of filling. Synthetic fibres are generally far more affordable than natural options such as goose or duck down, which are often considered premium, thanks to their impressive insulating properties. There are also other natural fills to consider, including wool, alongside vegan alternatives such as bamboo and tencel lyocell (made from wood pulp).
Synthetic duvets can be a smart, budget-friendly choice, with many brands now using recycled materials, making them a more sustainable option. They’re also well suited to allergy sufferers, as they tend to resist dust and allergens, and most can be easily machine-washed and tumble-dried.
Tog rating is another key consideration. Lower togs offer less warmth, with options such as 4.5 tog ideal for summer nights when you want comfort without overheating. At the other end of the scale, duvets can go up to around 15 tog for colder months. All-season duvets are another versatile option, combining two different togs that can be clipped together or used separately, depending on the temperature.
With all this in mind, I set out to find the very best duvets to suit a range of sleepers and budgets. Every option featured here has been thoroughly tested, and only those I genuinely rated made the final cut.

How I tested
I tested these duvets during all seasons, which gave me a good idea of what duvets were right for summer and winter. How did I test?
