  • Heartbreaking tributes have been made in recent interview

Footy legends Ben Cousins and Chris Judd have revealed just how significantly the tragic deaths of their West Coast Eagles teammates Adam Selwood and Adam Hunter affected them.

Cousins, 47, and Judd, 42, have lifted the lid on many aspects of their footy careers in an interview for Channel Seven, with Cousins playing the role of journalist.

Hunter passed away in February last year, with a coronial inquiry pinpointing meth-induced heart failure as the cause of his death after he struggled with drug addiction for decades.

Selwood died in May 2025, with the 187-game veteran found during a welfare check at his West Australian home after he took his own life.

Cousins and Judd paid tribute to their fallen teammates as they returned to Perth over the weekend for a reunion of the Eagles’ 2006 premiership-winning team, which Hunter and Selwood were both important parts of.

‘There will just be forever a hole in all our hearts that those two aren’t going to be here for the celebrations, but more importantly, for everything else in life,’ Judd told Cousins.

‘They were both just brilliant players in the team, incredibly important cogs – but more than that, just wonderful people,’ Judd added.

‘You speak about “Hunts” (Adam Hunter), his ability to go down back and then go forward and kick a goal in a tight game whenever you needed him to do it.

‘And Adam Selwood played shutdown roles on some of the great half-forwards in the competition week in and week out.’

The pair played alongside Hunter and Selwood in the 2006 decider, with West Coast gaining revenge over the Sydney Swans for their grand final defeat the previous year.

‘I don’t think that sadness will ever leave for any of the guys who played with them and any of the people that knew them,’ Judd said.

‘But they will certainly be remembered by all of us in perpetuity, but specifically on occasions like this because they were very special people who won’t be forgotten.’

Cousins then chimed in with his own recollection, saying, ‘(They were) universally loved within the group.’

The members of the 2006 West Coast team met for an official function before attending West Coast’s clash with Richmond on the weekend.
