Former UFC heavyweight Mark Hunt has reportedly been arrested on a domestic violence charge in Australia after allegedly threatening to kill a female acquaintance.

Hunt, the MMA cult hero affectionately known as the ‘Super Samoan’, was taken into custody by police in north-east New South Wales on Tuesday night, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

The New Zealander, 52, was charged with one count of stalking or intimidation with intent to cause physical harm in court on Wednesday. The court heard that he also allegedly texted a death threat to the woman in question.

After being arrested at his home in the Northern Rivers, he spent the night in custody at Ballina Police Station before initially being refused bail.

Hunt has since bonded out after agreeing to a series of strict conditions, including that he returns to his residential address in Cobbitty, south-west of Sydney, and does not contact the complainant.

His case will next be heard in Ballina Local Court on April 30.

Hunt is one of the most beloved UFC fighters of all time throughout his eight-year, 18-fight career in which he became known for his devastating power and signature walk-offs.

He headlined five events over the course of his career and fought for the interim heavyweight title against Brazil’s Fabricio Werdum at UFC 180.

The South Auckland-born star shared the Octagon with some of the biggest names in the sport – including Stipe Miocic and Brock Lesnar – before bringing his MMA career to a close after his last bout in 2018 ended in defeat. He has also competed in boxing and kickboxing.

Hunt unsuccessfully sued the UFC, president Dana White, and Lesnar after it was revealed that the former WWE superstar had failed drug tests before and after their 2016 contest. He originally lost the fight before it was changed to a no contest.

However, the Ninth Circuit of Appeals eventually upheld the ruling in favor of the UFC and White in 2025, eight years after Hunt first took legal action.

Hunt, who has encountered financial and legal troubles since walking away from fighting, is now a born-again Christian and a vegetarian who promotes a tequila named after himself and other fighters.
