England’s dramatic 2-1 World Cup 2026 victory against the Democratic Republic of Congo has sparked widespread celebration, with Sir Keir Starmer, Sir David Beckham and actor Ross Kemp among those taking to social media to laud the team’s success.

The thrilling Wednesday fixture saw England stage a remarkable comeback, having been 1-0 down for the majority of the game.

Captain Harry Kane proved instrumental, scoring two crucial second-half goals, including a decisive header in the 75th minute, to secure the win.

Former England captain Sir David Beckham shared a photograph of Kane on his Instagram story, commenting: “Wow we needed our captain tonight.”

He also praised the team for being “absolutely brilliant” and described Kane as a “true leader”.

He also shared a photograph of Kane and Bellingham celebrating with the caption “Brilliant performance from our captain”.

The UK Prime Minister shared a photograph of Kane with the caption: “It might actually be coming home.”

Pop star Harry Styles played the start of the match on the big screens at Wembley stadium for fans ahead of his 10th night at the arena.

He was seen on the floor of the stadium jumping around and cheering following Kane’s first goal.

Meanwhile, EastEnders star Ross Kemp appeared exasperated in video shared on his Instagram story.

“This is my England,” Kemp said.

Pounding his chest, he chanted: “Harry Kane, Harry Kane, we love you, we love you.”

Kemp added: “Why does it have to be dentistry every time? Why do we have to do it like this and now we have Mexico.

“You know what, if you can beat that kind of belief then we are capable of winning the whole thing but we need to sort our defence out a little bit.

“Come on England.”

The actor ended the video with a final, “Harry Kane, we love you”.

Kemp is an avid supporter of the England team and has been live reacting to the matches throughout the tournament on his Instagram stories.

Singer Olly Murs also took to the social media platform where he shared a video sporting the England football kit and a bucket hat as he sang It’s Coming Home.

He captioned the video “We won! We through! Come on England!”

The match in Atlanta ended with England fans belting out a rendition of Oasis’ Wonderwall with the national team singing it back to their supporters.

Oasis’ singer Liam Gallagher posted on X: “Cmon England cmon Wonderwall”.

England will next face co-hosts Mexico on Monday July 6 at the Mexico City Stadium.
