Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl has not denied reports of a clause in Harry Kane’s contract that would him to leave the club for a reduced fee this summer.
Instead, the Bayern chief has said the England captain is ‘old enough to make his own decisions’ and stressed his desire to see him stay with the German giants ‘in the future’.
His comments come amid mounting speculation that Kane, who is closing in on a century of goals for Bayern, could return to the league he left for £100million in 2023.
Tottenham manager Thomas Frank has added fuel to the chatter by admitting the 32-year-old would be welcomed back at the club he quit in search of major honours.
‘There’s a lot of Tottenham fans including myself who would like to see Kane back,’ said the Dane this week. ‘He’s welcome. ‘If he wants to join us, he’s more than welcome.’
Eberl has now responded to the speculation surrounding his star man, stressing his wish for Kane to remain at the Allianz Arena but notably falling short of denying the existence of a clause that would let him leave on the cheap.

‘He’s old enough to make his own decisions,’ the Bayern chief told Bild. ‘Whether clause or no clause, whatever – if he says, “I want to make a decision,” then he’ll make it, as he showed at Tottenham.
‘But our wish is, of course, to be very, very successful with Harry this season and in the future!’
Kane has become a fan favourite in Munich thanks to the fact he has smashed in 98 goals in 103 games. He is already on 13 this season at club level, almost twice as many as Erling Haaland.
He is enjoying life in Bavaria with his wife Kate and their four children. In May he said: ‘I’m really happy here in Munich.
‘My family has settled down. My kids are loving it here in school, so yes, this is my life here for the foreseeable future.’
But it is no secret he is within striking distance of breaking Alan Shearer’s Premier League goals record. Kane left Spurs on 213 goals, just 47 off Shearer’s long standing mark of 260.
Some believe that now he has won major silverware with Bayern, lifting last season’s Bundesliga title and this year’s Franz Beckenbauer Supercup, he should return to smash Shearer’s record before it is too late.
Bayern have signed Nicolas Jackson on loan from Chelsea with the option of a £56.3million permanent deal, but Kane remains the alpha male at the Allianz Arena.

On Saturday he hit a casual hat trick against Hoffenheim, who had been high flyers themselves, to further enhance his reputation at Die Roten.
One German journalist subsequently published an apology for doubting Kane when he first arrived.
