Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen has defended his estranged wife from ‘fake news’ after Spanish reports claimed he had moved out after she had cheated on him.
Ter Stegen and Daniela Jehle announced their separation after nearly eight years of marriage last week.
The couple, who began dating in 2012 and married five years later, confirmed the split in a social media post.
Spanish journalist Juliana Canet claimed on Catalunya Radio that Ter Stegen and Jehle have lived apart for two months.
She stated that Ter Stegen had been living at the five-star Grand Hyatt Hotel in Barcelona having opted to move out after allegedly discovering that Jehle had cheated on him.
Canet stated that Ter Stegen had used renovations being carried out on the mansion the couple had bought last summer to explain why he had been living in the hotel.

Ter Stegen denied Spanish reports he moved out after discovering his wife cheated him on
Ter Stegen has now hit out at the reports, accusing the radio station of broadcasting ‘fake news’ and denied the claim his wife had cheated on him.
‘I am shocked and disappointed by the mismanagement and lack of leadership and control at Catalunya Ràdio & Grupo 3Cat, which have spread fake news and violated personal rights,’ Ter Stegen wrote.
‘There has been no infidelity on Daniela’s part. There are no third parties involved. This is a fact.
‘As has been communicated, Daniela and I have decided to go our separate ways under good circumstances, maintaining communication based on trust. It is completely unacceptable for government-led public media to spread this, falsely accusing Daniela and attacking her personally. The damage is irreparable.’
Ter Stegen and Jehle had confirmed their split in a social media post last week, stating that the decision came after ‘careful consideration’.
‘After careful consideration, Dani and I have decided to go our separate ways,’ the joint statement read.
‘This decision was not an easy one, as you can imagine, but we both believe it is the best step for us.
‘Our joint focus is on doing what is best for our children, ensuring they continue to have a loving and stable environment.

Jehle had followed Ter Stegen to Barcelona when he joined the club in in 2014 in a £9.7 million move.
The couple married on May 15 in 2017 with a small ceremony near Barcelona, before having a church wedding in Tuscany.
