Football Australia pays tribute to young Socceroos fan killed after Federation Square screening

Football Australia has paid an emotional tribute to 18-year-old Socceroos supporter Cesare Liberatore, who tragically died in a car accident after watching Australia’s World Cup match against the United States at Melbourne’s Federation Square.

In a statement before Australia’s clash with Paraguay, Football Australia extended its condolences to Cesare’s family and loved ones.

“Football Australia would like to extend its sincere condolences to lifelong football fan Cesare Liberatore and his family after the 18-year-old tragically died in a car accident having just watched the Socceroos’ FIFA World Cup match against the United States at Federation Square in Melbourne.

“Rest in peace, Cesare.”

Fans flooded the comments with messages of support, with many hoping the Socceroos could honour the young supporter with a victory over Paraguay.

“Heartbreaking news, let’s get this win today for him,” one supporter wrote.

Another added: “Beautiful message and absolutely heartbreaking.”

A third posted: “May He Rest In Eternal Peace and sincerest condolences and deepest sympathies to all his family and loved ones and all of us as a Football family. Let’s get the win lads in memory of this great kid.”
