A second man has been arrested over the suspected murder of a 17-year-old girl who was last seen in 1998.

Donna Keogh’s went missing from Middlesbrough town centre in 1998, and detectives suspect she was murdered shortly after she disappeared, according to Cleveland Police.

Her body has never been found.

On Saturday, the force said a 62-year-old man had been arrested in the Manchester area the day prior in connection with the investigation and will be interviewed in police custody.

Earlier this year, police arrested a 64-year-old man from the Leeds area, also on suspicion of Donna’s murder.

He remains on bail while the investigation continues, Cleveland Police said.

Detective Inspector Evan Kirtley, deputy senior investigating officer, said: “This morning we have made a second arrest in connection with the murder of Donna Keogh.

“The man remains in police custody where he will be interviewed. We remain in close contact with Donna’s family and they are being kept fully updated.

“Donna’s family have lived with unbearable uncertainty for nearly 30 years as they need answers as to what happened to Donna, and we are determined to find those answers for them,” Detective Inspector Kirtley added.

“Somebody out there knows what happened and could tell us, in order to give the family some comfort and peace, after all this time.

“If you have information, please tell us. You can contact us directly or report anonymously.”

Donna was last seen in Middlesbrough on April 28 1998, and was known to have travelled to Leeds that year.

Detectives investigating her disappearance and suspected murder have been carrying out inquiries in the city in recent months.

The charity Crimestoppers has also offered a £20,000 reward for information about Donna’s murder.

In 2018, police dug up an allotment on Teesside and found human remains but forensic testing revealed them to date back to medieval times.
