So much for his plus one.
Andy Cohen arrived to The Wall Street Hotel for its annual Summer Sunset Rooftop Pride celebration on Monday without boyfriend Kevin Sobieski, but he was still top of mind, we’re told. A spy overheard Cohen explaining to guests that he was riding solo because Sobieski was out of town.
Cohen attended the bash to support the Perry Moore Hero Fund Scholarship and Hetrick-Martin Institute.
At one point, the Bravo host hopped on stage and spoke about his personal relationship with Moore, who tragically passed away in 2011 of an apparent drug overdose, and led the crowd in a toast. A source described the speech as “very heartfelt.”
Legendary New York drag queen Shequida emceed the event, but she didn’t work for free. Shequida asked the crowd to donate $1,000 to the charity for her to sing a surprise song. Cohen was the first to put his money where his mouth is. We’re told he “immediately” raised his hand to donate and Shequida kept her promise and sang “Whatever Shequida Wants.”
Sophia Bush, Candice Kumai, Carson Kressley, Ann Dexter-Jones, Ty Hunter, Kevin Aviance, Erik Bottcher, and the hotel’s general manager Prince A. Sanders were all on the scene. Former Bravo star Kelly Bensimon was also there snapping pics with her old boss Cohen, and dancing with DJ Lina Bradford behind the booth.
Cohen isn’t the only one getting into the rainbow spirit. “Wicked” star Cynthia Erivo made a surprise appearance at Emil Wilbekin’s 10th Annual Native Son Awards at Pier Sixty on Friday night, where she presented an award to TV director Anthony Hemingway, we hear.
Erivo’s partner, Lena Waithe, produced the anniversary event. Tamron Hall made an appearance to honor Durand Bernarr and “Pose” star Dyllón Burnside performed his new single “Garden.”
And the new music didn’t stop there.
Boy George surprised partygoers at the the historic Stonewall, where he played a new release of “Karma Chameleon.” We hear he played a mixture of house and electric pop while yelling to the cheerful crowd to “show me how queer you are!”
