There’s no shortage of memeworthy Alison Hammond moments, with almost everything the ITV presenter touches turning to viral gold. However, Hammond has revealed that she hasn’t been thrilled with all of the clips that broke the internet – namely one memorable gaffe on The Great British Bake Off.
In 2024, one of Bake Off’s technical challenges took a dramatic turn when Hammond fell off one of the kitchen counters. While trying to “add a little bit of happiness” to the Channel 4 tent, the presenter kicked both legs in the air before accidentally falling backwards off the table.
“Don’t come over here,” she told the cameras while giggling. “Leave me. Leave me.” Co-host Noel Fielding then crawled on top of her, saying: “That’s the best thing I’ve ever seen, ever.”
The clip has amassed over three million views on TikTok, with the funny moment immediately becoming an internet meme.
However, Hammond, 51, has now admitted that she “would have preferred that it didn’t come out” after being left “mortified”.
Speaking to XCity Magazine, she said: “There are things that have gone viral and I wasn’t happy with it.
“It was so unladylike but people loved it,” she continued, before clarifying that it was completely accidental.
“I was mortified. I would have preferred that it didn’t come out. That’s where you have to separate the world of what people like and your own ego.”

She also revealed that she often asks for footage of her crying on TV shows to be edited out. “I think I’m an ugly crier,” Hammond said. “So whenever I cry, I ask them, ‘Don’t put that in.’”
Hammond rose to fame as a contestant on Big Brother in 2002. She lasted just 15 days, but gave the reality show one of its most iconic moments – breaking the garden’s picnic table after jumping on it repeatedly.
She’s since landed hosting roles on This Morning, Bake Off and ITV’s For the Love of Dogs, taking over from Paul O’Grady after his death in 2023.
During her time on This Morning, the presenter has been part of the show’s most watchable moments – from almost getting arrested while filming a competition segment in Italy to staging a fake wedding with a bemused Dwayne “The Rock” Hammond in 2017.
However, the most popular interview she’s ever done is with Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling for her Blade Runner 2049, during which she left the two actors in stitches after admitting that she’d never seen the original film.
She’s currently in the running to be one of Strictly Come Dancing’s new hosts, having clarified earlier this month that should would be “absolutely crazy” to turn it down after previously saying that she was “too busy” to do it.
