Manchester City captain Alex Greenwood hopes they will be celebrating Khadija Shaw’s successes for the club “for years to come” and that she stays.

Shaw, 29, is the club’s top-scorer and scored twice as City came back from 2-0 down to beat Chelsea and reach the Women’s FA Cup final on Sunday.

City were also crowned Women’s Super League champions for the first time in a decade last week but speculation regarding Shaw’s future has grown.

She is set to leave City when her contract ends in June after negotiations over a new deal broke down and Chelsea are favourites to sign her on a free deal.

Shaw, known as ‘Bunny’, sits next to Greenwood in City’s changing room and the England international does not want to see her leave the club.

“Bunny and I have sat next to each other in the changing room for the whole time we’ve been here. She’s a really special person to me,” Greenwood told Sport.

“She is a fantastic player and I absolutely love Bunny. She’s one of my closest friends in football and I care about her a lot.

“I would be lying if I said I knew what the future was for Bunny because I don’t. But I hope we celebrate with Bunny in a City shirt for years to come.”
