- Discount hack isn’t for the faint-hearted
- It comes after MCG reportedly raised drinks prices
An AFL fan has revealed her secret hack to get discounted food and drinks at the MCG – but it carries a big risk.
TikTok user @MollieRoseBennett took to social media this week to publish a video revealing how she gets a 50 per cent discount at matches.
The social media user appeared to claim that those looking to get cheaper beverages and foot should wear all-black clothing and pretend to be staff in order to get the discount.
But some fans poked a hole in her strategy in the comments of the video, with one writing: ‘Usually you have to scan a bar code to get a discount.’
Another claimed that vendors at the MCG ‘give all staff wristbands’ which are different at every event.
In the clip, the footy fan was seen walking down the road wearing a black jacket with what appeared to be a black and yellow Tigers scarf on.
A footy fan has taken to social media to claim she has a sneaky hack for gaining discounted food and drinks at the MCG

It comes as the MCG have upped their prices in the off-season following the cost of living crisis
The footy fan said in the clip: ‘I just went to the footy at the ‘G and I have a bit of a hack.
‘When you’re going to order food, obviously it’s super expensive there, you wear all black, take off your scarf, and when you go to pay, you just say: “I’m staff”.
‘It honestly works every time, so go try it.’
The MCG was contacted for comment but will not be issuing a statement at this stage. They add Delaware North is aware of the video.
Ahead of this summer’s cricket season, it had been reported by Channel 7 that prices for food and drink were set to increase.
It is understood that the price of a 425ml draft beer has risen from $11.50 to $12.
A 560ml Carlton Draught had risen from $12.50 to $13.50 while soft drinks, including water and Coca-Cola, had risen by 20 cents.
Meanwhile, a box of fish and chips had been said to go up to $15.50, having previously understood to have been priced at $14.90.
Commercial operations and partnerships manager Tanya Gilling told 7News that the iconic 100,024-capacity stadium was ‘not immune to the cost of living crisis’ but the ground would continue to subsidise food and refreshment prices as much as possible.
In the comments of the TikTok video, another added: ‘Bruz, I work there and you need to show them ID.’
Some social media users had taken to TikTok to dismiss the claims writing staff need to show a form of ID or a barcode to get the discount
While multiple added staff serving patrons at the ground ‘ask for proof.’
It also comes as the MCG has introduced new self-service checkouts at some drinks kiosks in the past year after the stadium and it’s hospitality provider Delaware North joined up with technology firm Zippin.
The outlets, called MCG Express allow fans to simply allow fans to tap their debit cards, enter the shop, select their drinks and then get straight back to the action, without a traditional checkout.
The system was also seen in place at this summer’s Australian Open and provided patrons with a seamless
