  • Still travelled to Adelaide as planned despite the disruption

Hawthorn forward Jack Ginnivan has been left scrambling on the eve of Gather Round after making a startling discovery at his Melbourne home just hours before he was due to fly out.

The 23-year-old was preparing to head to Adelaide with his teammates when he realised something was very wrong – his car was gone.

The vehicle, understood to be a grey 2025 Nissan Patrol, had been taken from Ginnivan’s Richmond street, with the incident occurring while he was still in Melbourne ahead of Hawthorn’s clash with the Western Bulldogs.

Police have since confirmed they are investigating the theft, which is believed to have taken place between Thursday evening and Friday morning.

‘It’s understood the grey 2025 Nissan Patrol was stolen from (his) street sometime between 6pm on Thursday April 9 and 9.30am on Friday April 10,’ a police statement said.

‘A report was made to the Police Assistance Line, and the matter is now being investigated.’

Authorities have not indicated whether Ginnivan was specifically targeted, or if the theft was opportunistic as thousands of AFL players, staff and fans descended on South Australia for the league’s showpiece weekend.

Anyone with information has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers.

Meanwhile,  a stirring win over Geelong has given Hawthorn the belief they can go with the AFL’s best.

Now they are determined to show their Easter Monday heroics weren’t a one-off – and for defender Josh Battle, there’s no better chance to do so than facing the unbeaten Western Bulldogs.

The Hawks underlined their quality and grit in Monday’s thrilling one-point victory over the Cats.

The Bulldogs are without star midfielder ruckman Tim English (knee) and forward Arty Jones (hamstring) but have named Ed Richards to return while big man Louis Emmett will debut.

Harvey Gallagher and Cooper Hynes replace Lachie McNeil (omitted) and Lachie Jaques (managed)

Hawthorn have named James Sicily and Jack Gunston to play after injury scares and will regain Karl Amon and Cam Mackenzie while Jack Scrimshaw (managed) and Jack Dalton (omitted) make way.

‘It’s probably one of the best wins I’ve been a part of,’ Battle said.

‘It gives us a lot of belief. We’re super confident in the way we play, and our brand of footy can stack up against the best.

‘But to beat Geelong, they’ve been on top of the game for a long time, so I think that’ll give us a lot of confidence.’
