AC Milan are set to meet Oliver Glasner with a view to appointing him as their next manager.

Glasner has left Crystal Palace after winning the FA Cup, the Community Shield, and most recently the Europa Conference League.

And now Milan – who sacked Massimiliano Allegri after they finished fifth in Serie A and missed out on the Champions League, will talk to the Austrian on Tuesday next week.

There have been suggestions that Andoni Iraola rejected the chance to manage Milan despite moving on from Bournemouth.

And now the Rossoneri are hoping to combine the appointment of Glasner with that of former Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick as sporting director.

Milan recently got rid of Igli Tare from the role after just a year in post and Rangnick has emerged as the favourite to replace him.

Glasner and Rangnick worked together at Red Bull Salzburg, where the former was assistant manager.

Milan owner Gerry Cardinale and adviser Zlatan Ibrahimovic hope that the combination can lead to an aligned direction moving forward. They last won the Scudetto back in 2021-22.

Taking over a club of their size will be the biggest job of Glasner’s career.

He was largely a one-club man in his playing career, spending it all at SV Ried besides a short loan spell at LASK.

The 51-year-old has since managed both of those as well as Wolfsburg, Eintracht Frankfurt – where he won the Europa League – and Palace.

On his grandstand finish at Palace, he said: ‘It means a lot. As I said, it’s not just the badge. It’s the people I’m working with.

‘And it’s the people, it’s our fans. They’re always so passionate supporting us and they’re always sticking to us. And then, you know, today when it was a little bit, well, let’s say in the last 15 minutes, you could see players getting a bit fatigued.

‘They went all in to support the players. The fans got louder and louder and louder. And this helped us again to get this win.

‘We’re all now rewarded with lifting another trophy, with extending the European journey, and this is what everybody deserves.

“So really, thank you very much to every single player. Thank you very much to everyone in the staff. And thank you very much to the fans for supporting us and especially and also me.’
