English golfer Aaron Rai has triumphed at the PGA Championship following an enthralling final round at Aronimink Golf Club.
Wolverhampton-born Rai, 31, who is ranked No 44 in the world, held his nerve in a closely-fought last stanza at the tricky Philadelphia course with his nine under par score proving too good to beat.
He saw off competition from Matthias Schmid, Justin Thomas and Jon Rahm to win his first major and is the first Englishman to win the PGA Championship in 107 years – emulating Jim Barnes’s triumph in 1919.
Rory McIlroy failed to ignite a late surge to challenge the lead, finishing on four under.
