When planning their August wedding, Nusrat and Joseph took care to ensure every detail reflected their story, bringing together the traditions of two cultures against the breathtaking backdrop of the Scottish Highlands.
Held at the charming Aswanley, a modern barn venue in Aberdeenshire, they hosted a beautiful and fun summer celebration with a laid-back garden party vibe, colourful flowers, custom-made dresses, and a fusion of deliciously inventive flavours—haggis pakoras, anyone?
Complete with a meaningful hand-fasting ceremony and a just-married vintage car jaunt, Nusrat and Joseph’s day was a delightful blend of backgrounds and a joy-filled celebration of family, culture, and everything they love.
The Venue
We chose Aswanley because we loved the modern barn look and wanted something timeless. It was perfect for our day; we especially loved the fireplace room.
The Fashion
The wedding dress was a traditional South Asian dress custom-made by a small boutique in London. The look was brought together by the lovely Julzstron on makeup and Zoe Gordon on hair. The bridesmaids’ dresses were also custom-made in different colours to match the summer theme. The Groom and groomsmen wore kilts provided by Mitchell Scott, and the groom’s boutonnière was made by our florist, Kim Dalglish.
The Flowers & Styling
We had Kim Dalglish as our florist. She was perfect for us as we wanted a mix of colours and wildflowers throughout our venue. We were in awe when we saw the final look; Kim understood exactly what we wanted!
We wanted our theme to feel like a big whimsical garden party with lots of touches of nature—lots of flowers, candles, and lights! This matched our personalities perfectly.
The Food & Drink
We wanted our menu to mirror our blend of cultures, so we had a very non-traditional menu. For example, one of our starters was a haggis pakora! As for our cake, we wanted something to match the theme, so we went for a cake with flowers of all colours, just like the bride’s bouquet; the cake was delicious and made by the wonderful Evelyn’s Cake Boutique.
The Photographer
We had Jennifer Riddell as our photographer. Jennifer was a lot of fun. Not only did she make us laugh, she made us feel totally comfortable. Our photos were beautiful, it felt like we were having fun more than anything, which is exactly what we were looking for. Time really flew when we got our pictures. We hired a vintage car for our day; driving around in the car for the pictures was a lot of fun! It was even more fun than we had expected.
