Months after being shot in the leg while attending a rap concert in his native Mississippi, University of Missouri running back Ahmad Hardy could return to the field.

Hardy finished last season with the second-most rushing yards (1,649) of any running back in the nation and led all Power Four players. His 16 rushing touchdowns were also among the best in the nation.

It was a major jump up for Hardy after he transferred from Louisiana-Monroe following his freshman season.

But back in May, while attending a show in his home state, Hardy was shot in the leg and required surgery.

He was able to successfully undergo a procedure, but his status for the upcoming season was not clear. Missouri fans can now breathe a sigh of relief.

Tigers head coach Eli Drinkwitz revealed at SEC Media Day that Hardy has fully recovered from his surgery and has been medically cleared to resume football activities.

After recovery, Hardy’s next focus is to get in shape for the season following months of focusing on healing.

‘We anticipate that he will make a recovery,’ Drinkwitz said from the stage on the first day of SEC media days.

‘What that recovery will look like after having a bullet strike you is still to be determined.’

Drinkwitz did not provide a firm timeline for when Hardy might be able to return.

Hardy will now work to get ready for the first game of the season against Arkansas-Pine Bluff on September 3.

But while he may not be able to suit up against the FCS opponent, it’s likely he could be ready for the renewal of the rivalry against Kansas.
