Pubs erupted across Britain as England battled past Norway after extra time in a tense World Cup 2026 quarter-final that saw Jude Bellingham deliver again.
After a 1-1 draw in 90 minutes, Bellingham slotted home a rebound from Orjan Nyland’s spill just three minutes into the extra half-an-hour to put the Three Lions into a second semi-final in the past three World Cups, with Argentina or Switzerland now lying in wait on Wednesday evening (15 July).
While England boss Thomas Tuchel wasn’t happy with the performance, describing his side as “lucky”, many celebrities have taken to social media to share their congratulations and praise with the England squad.
Sir David Beckham, who visited the England squad during training in Miami this week, shared photos and videos from the match in the US to his Instagram stories, alongside the caption: “Brilliant from the lads.”
Meanwhile, Victoria shared a photo of her and Beckham alongside their children, Romeo, 23, Cruz, 21, and Harper, 15, at the Hard Rock Stadium, writing: “Special moment tonight in Miami with my family and for our country.”
Elsewhere, Oasis singer Liam Gallagher, whose hit record “Wonderwall” has become an unofficial anthem of the tournament for England, said he wanted to see the squad take home the World Cup trophy.
“We’re winning this WC I don’t know how don’t care respect to all those players manager you gotta make it happen LG,” the musician wrote on X/Twitter.
“Dancing with Myself” hitmaker Billy Idol admitted the England team had tested his nerves, admitting the game was “really close” until Bellingham came to the rescue. “Norway played really well we were lucky in some ways,” he said. “I was on the edge of my seat!”

Re-sharing a celebratory graphic from the official England account, Prince William congratulated the England squad, writing: “Top performance in a tough environment. This is a special team. Commiserations to a proud Norway team. Onto the semi final… Never in doubt!”
Piers Morgan specifically praised Tuchel, dubbing the England manager “a natural-born winner who refuses to accept anything but the best”.
England now have three days off before their World Cup semi-final when The Three Lions will take on Argentina at The Atlanta Stadium, more commonly known as the Mercedes-Benz Stadium at 8pm BST.
