Arthur Fery will enter the world’s top 40 after the British wildcard reached the Wimbledon semi-finals with a brilliant victory over Flavio Cobolli.
The 23-year-old entered Wimbledon ranked 114th in the world but will rise to 36th in the world after becoming only the second wildcard to reach the semi-finals at the Championships.
Fery was ranked outside the world’s top 300 this time last year and only cracked the world’s top 200 in October. He entered the world’s top 100, a significant career milestone, after beating Zizou Bergs in the third round.
Should Fery continue his remarkable Wimbledon run and upset second seed Alexander Zverev in Friday’s semi-finals, the French-born Fery will head to the US Open inside the top 30 in the world and could even be seeded for the final grand slam of the season. He started the 2026 season by qualifying for the Australian Open.
Fery is also set to double his career earnings in prize money by advancing to the semi-finals, where he will receive £900,000 for reaching the final four of the tournament. Fery would earn £1.8m should he make it to the final, where the champion will win £3.6m.
Fery is just the fifth British man in the open era to make it through to the semi-finals at Wimbledon, following Andy Murray (7 appearance), Tim Henman (4), Roger Taylor (2) and Cameron Norrie (one). He is only the second wildcard to play in the semi-finals and the first since the 2001 champion Goran Ivanisevic.
“It just gets better and better every match. I can’t believe it,” Fery said. “It’s incredible, playing on Centre Court for the second time… Just can’t believe it.
“I knew I could do it, even though it was my first time in the quarter-finals and he’s done it before. Just kept going, was very nervous beforehand but kept going to the finish line.
“Definitely was not [calm] on the inside! That last game, I felt emotions that I hadn’t experienced before in my life and I think it’s the same up there [in the box]. It’s unbelievable to share it with those guys, a great bunch of guys, so happy.
“I’ve never been in this position before! I guess we’ll figure it out as we go. I’m just going to keep going, I’ve been doing a great job for the past 10 days, going to do the same thing and see where that takes me.”
Fery continued his extraordinary Wimbledon run as the British wildcard advanced to the semi-finals by beating Flavio Cobolli 6-4 7-6 (4) 6-0 in a stunning straight-sets victory to the disbelief of Centre Court.
Fery’s victories at Wimbledon in reaching the quarter-finals featured some remarkable comebacks, but he led from the front against ninth seed Cobolli – who last month reached the French Open final.
A gorgeous volley at the net secured the crucial second-set tiebreak before the 23-year-old Fery lifted his level to race away with the third without losing a single game, falling to his back as he won match point.
Fery will play the second seed and French Open champion Zverev in the semi-finals on Friday, for a place in the final against either Novak Djokovic or Jannik Sinner.
