Two women and a toddler were killed in a “heinous” shooting in Jackson, Mississippi, according to the Jackson Police Department.

Police received a call at approximately 10:10 pm Saturday reporting that an aggravated assault had occurred at the 300 block of Queen Alexandria Lane, according to Jackson Police Chief RaShall Brackney, according to the Mississippi Clarion Ledger.

“We have three — a triple homicide here, two young women in their 20s and a toddler,” Brackney said during a press briefing. He added that all three homicide victims “suffered from multiple gunshot wounds.”

He described the scene as “horrible.”

The victims were identified as Keyana Weathersby, 25, Camari Givens, 2, and Erica Weathersby, 30, according to the Clarion Ledger, citing confirmation from Hinds County Coroner Jeremiah Howard.

Howard told the paper that Keyana, the mother of Givens, was shot multiple times in the head. He said that Givens, the child, suffered “multiple gunshots to the head, face, and arm.” Keyana Weathersby, Erica Weathersby’s sister and Givens’ aunt, reportedly was shot multiple times in the head, upper torso, and extremities.

“This is a heinous crime,” Brackney said. “Whoever did this is an absolute coward. … You killed a toddler as well as the child’s mother and another person in that home.”

Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones addressed the shocking shooting in a Facebook post.

“Today, our community is grieving,” the statement says. “Two women and an innocent toddler were taken from us in an act of violence that words can barely hold. A child who should have been safe in their own bed. Daughters, mothers, and a baby who deserved a lifetime still ahead of them.”

He then addressed the family directly.

“To the family carrying this unimaginable loss, I want you to hear me clearly. You are not alone. The weight you are carrying tonight is shared by an entire community that aches with you, prays with you, and refuses to look away,” he wrote. “There are no words that can fill the place these lives once held, but please know that your grief is seen and your loved ones will not be forgotten.”

No arrest has been made and the suspect remains at large and is considered “armed and dangerous,” according to Brackney.

Police said the suspect is driving a red 2020 Mitsubishi Mirage with the license plate HSI 205.

According to the Clarion Ledger, the deaths are the 41st, 42nd, and 43rd homicides in Jackson this year. The triple homicide was the deadliest single event in Jackson this year.

The Jackson police have asked that anyone with information concerning the shooting or the suspect call the department.
