Channel Nine stars Danika Mason and Jelena Dokic have been nominated for a new Logie award named after a legend of Aussie broadcasting.

The duo are in the running to win the Bruce McAvaney award for Most Popular TV Sports Presenter.

They join Channel Seven’s Ricky Ponting, as well as their Channel Nine colleagues James Bracey and Eddie McGuire on the list of nominations.

Both women are integral parts of Nine’s sport coverage across a range of codes.

Mason currently presents all forms of sport on the Today show, and is also one of the main hosts of Nine’s NRL coverage.

The 34-year-old also anchors the network’s hit footy program, Freddy and the Eighth, with footy legends Brad Fittler and Andrew Johns.

Mason has been a star at the network for 14 consecutive years.

She has worked her way up from being a producer as a teenager to becoming one of Nine’s most recognisable faces.

Dokic has stamped herself as a talent while providing expert commentary and interviews on Nine’s coverage of the Australian Open, Wimbledon, and the US and French Opens.

She has also branched out into covering big racing events like the Melbourne Cup and Oaks Day.

The 43-year-old officially began her presenting and broadcasting journey back in 2019 after ending her playing career five years beforehand.

Dokic joined Nine as an expert analyst for its inaugural Summer of Tennis coverage.

The new award has been created to honour Bruce McAvaney, with the Channel Seven legend also nominated for the new addition to the Logies family.

Nominees will find out if they have won when the 66th Logie Awards take place on Sunday, August 16.
