Tottenham are not planning to move for Marseille striker Mason Greenwood this window.

The French side are looking to cash in on the 24-year-old as they face financial difficulties. Today, a report in L’Equipe suggested Greenwood would be available for €50million (£43.3m).

Roma have been discussing a deal for the former England international but are short of Marseille’s desired asking price.

Manchester United also retain a substantial 40 per cent sell on.

Tottenham have been linked with Greenwood because of their coach Roberto de Zerbi previously working well with him but Daily Mail Sport understands they have no plans to join the bidding.

Tottenham will not pursue a move for Mason Greenwood – despite his transfer availability

Marseille’s new sporting director Gregory Lorenzi told L’Equipe of Greenwood: ‘He’s one of the players we’re seriously considering. If an opportunity arises, of course, we’ll have to think about it.

‘But there’s the club’s position, the player’s position, and it’s also up to us to manage it internally and find the best possible solution for all parties.’

English clubs appear unlikely to gamble on a move for Greenwood after his initial return to Man United, following dropped charges for attempted rape, assault and coercive control, faced backlash from supporters.

Greenwood did not appear for United after his arrest in January 2022 and ultimately left on loan to Getafe in the summer of 2023 before his £26.6m permanent move to Marseille.

At the time when Greenwood was still at United, Natalie Burrell, founder of the team’s Women’s Supporters’ Club, said in her opinion he should not be welcomed back.

She said: ‘I’ve been going to this club since I was a little girl. It’s such an important part of my life.

‘It’s a community, it’s everything, it’s where I get a lot of my social life, a lot of my friends.

‘It would just destroy that. It’s destroying it now there’s massive divides and protests.

‘It’s going to make it toxic if he does run out at Old Trafford, people are going to be booing him.

‘Some might be supporting him and saying we should carry on supporting, but you can’t support someone like that. I think it’s all because they’ve not got a lot of striking options and this is an easy way to get someone in who’s talented’, she added in the interview with Newsnight.
