Lewis Hamilton has claimed his long-awaited first win for Ferrari – and his first victory in almost two years – after storming to the chequered flag in Barcelona.
It has been a long wait to return to the top step of the podium for the seven-time world champion, who endured a dreadful debut season in Ferrari red following his shock move from Mercedes.
This season, though, has been a different story – despite Mercedes’ early dominance – with the signs suggesting that Hamilton could be a genuine threat to Kimi Antonelli and George Russell in the title fight.
And now Hamilton has produced a performance to give his fans reason to dream that a record eighth world championship is possible after he produced a flawless performance in Barcelona.
He crossed the line 19 seconds ahead of Russell, with McLaren’s Lando Norris completing a British 1-2-3 in third.
‘Grazie tutti Maranello,’ Hamilton told his race engineers.
‘Thank you so much. You’ve helped me achieve this dream and I can’t thank you enough. Thanks for everyone pushing so hard back at home
‘I’m so proud of you. To my family, I love you To my fans, thank you for continuing to remind me who I am. I couldn’t have done this without you.’
More to follow.
