President Donald Trump urged voters to oust “bum” Thomas Massie, deeming him the “Worst Republican Congressman in History” ahead of Tuesday’s primary — after another one of his critics, Sen. Bill Cassidy, lost his seat during a contentious primary race.

“Bad Congressman Tom Massie voted against Tax Cuts, the Border Wall, our Military and Law Enforcement. Actually, he voted against almost everything that is good. The Worst Republican Congressman in History. Kentucky, vote the bum out on Tuesday,” Trump wrote on Truth Social Sunday morning.

In a post just after midnight Sunday, Trump said Massie was “an even bigger insult to our Nation than Senator Bill Cassidy or Louisiana.” Cassidy failed to advance in Louisiana’s Republican Senate primary Saturday night.

“This is the first time such a thing has ever happened to a sitting U.S. Senator! That’s what you get by voting to Impeach an innocent man, especially one who made it possible for Cassidy’s Senate win,” Trump added, referring to the senator’s vote to convict the president following the January 6, 2021, attack at the U.S. Capitol.

Trump took Cassidy’s defeat Saturday as an opportunity to encourage voters to oust Massie. Trump’s anger with Massie has intensified over the past year, especially after he broke with the president over the Iran war and Jeffrey Epstein investigations.

“Very disloyal, but Tom Massie, a major Sleazebag, is even worse!” Trump’s post continued. “Kentucky, get this LOSER out of politics in Tuesday’s Election”

The president then encouraged voters to back Ed Gallrein, “a successful Kentucky farmer and American War Hero, who only ran because he thought that Massie was so disloyal and disrespectful to your President, ME!”

“This is a great man, Central Casting, in fact, who truly deserves to represent the fantastic people of Kentucky, a Commonwealth that I am proud to have won all three times, in record fashion!” Trump continued.

He added: “ED WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

Tuesday’s contest in Kentucky’s 4th Congression District has become the most expensive House primary battle in U.S. history, The Hill reports. Citing data from AdImpact, the outlet said $25.6 million has been spent in television, radio and digital advertising.

Cassidy was one of seven Republican senators who voted to convict Trump during his impeachment trial over the January 6 Capitol attack. Trump was ultimately acquitted after 57 Senators voted to convict, three short of the supermajority needed to convict.

Last month, he told NBC News that his 2021 vote “might be” a liability in the primary election. But he said he has been trying to emphasize his working relationship with the president.

“If you want somebody who works well with President Trump, you vote for Bill Cassidy. He may not like me, but he has signed into law four bills that I either wrote or negotiated in the last four months,” Cassidy told The Washington Post.

Trump threw his support behind Rep. Julia Letlow, who first took office in 2021 in a special election to replace her husband, who initially won the seat in 2020 but died from COVID-19 complications just days before his swearing in.

Letlow will face state Treasurer John Fleming in a runoff election on June 27.

Cassidy’s defeat marked the first time an incumbent senator lost a primary election in more than 10 years. During his concession speech, Cassidy said, “When you participate in democracy, sometimes it doesn’t turn out the way you want it to. But you don’t pout. You don’t whine. You don’t claim the election was stolen.”

The Louisiana Republican, along with Massie, are part of a group of GOP incumbents being challenged by Trump-backed opponents this cycle.

Massie has said that the upcoming election serve’s as a “national referendum” on Trump’s influence during his second term and whether the Republican party can survive without Trump.

Trump also took aim at his longtime supporter Lauren Boebert after she backed Massie, writing on Truth Social Saturday: “Is anyone interested in running against Weak Minded Lauren Boebert in Colorado’s Fourth Congressional District?”

He called her a “Carpetbagger” who is “campaigning for the Worst ‘Republican’ Congressman in the History of our Country.”

However, Boebert didn’t seem fazed by the attack, writing on X, “Yes, I saw the President’s post. No, I’m not mad or offended. I knew the risks when I agreed to stand by my friend Thomas Massie.”

“I was, and will be, American First, American Always, and MAGA. Onward,” she added.

Trump endorsed Boebert’s re-election in 2025, calling the Colorado congresswoman a “MAGA warrior” and “an America First Patriot.”

The Independent has reached out to Massie for comment.
