Former Footy superstar Abbey Holmes has hit back at critics of her work schedule after she returned to work after having her baby boy Braxton.

So busy has Holmes been, that Braxton may have earned the title of a world traveller before the age of one having already visited five different countries.

And a vocal minority of social media decided to lash out against Holmes for her working schedule.

Many have questioned her commitment to her 10 month old son as the former AFLW Premiership player is often seen on TV presenting and commentating for Seven Network.

That is something the 35-year-old has not taken lightly, as she opened up about the hurt those comments have caused her.

And at times, Holmes has even taken time out of her day to respond to those critics on social media, much to the dismay of her husband Keegan Brooksby.

One comment that particularly struck a nerve with Holmes was from a man called Daryl, who wrote, ‘Any chance you could spend a minute or two with your baby, you self-centred egotist?’

‘I get emotional even talking about it now,’ Holmes told Adelaide Now.

‘I didn’t expect the amount of backlash that I got returning to work.’

The Channel Seven commentator had already been questioning her decision to return to work, and the photos she posted of her getting ready to host the Brownlow red carpet is what sparked the pile on.

‘That’s where all of the keyboard warriors come out. That was probably the hardest part, even harder than actually going back to work with a newborn,’ she said.

‘I love Adelaide footy games because Braxxy comes with me. We stay at the Oval Hotel and both our parents live in Adelaide so we have a line up of people to help.’

But one thing is for sure, and that is Holmes is completely dedicated to her son Braxton, who she spends all of her time with when she is not working.

‘I’m obsessed with being Braxton’s mum but I also have big goals and dreams and big career aspirations. At the end of the day, everything that I’m doing now is for him and his future,’ she added.

‘Keegan is the ultimate teammate in every sense. I wouldn’t be able to do this without him. We both know each other has dreams and goals so we do whatever we can to support that.

‘You’re already second guessing yourself as a new mum. Is this right for us? Is he okay? Am I doing any damage?

‘Then there’s the pile-on … people saying, ‘how dare you go back to work?’ It definitely adds to the mum guilt.

‘When people are questioning your dedication to your child, that doesn’t sit well with me.

‘People see me on screen or on social media and think it’s glamorous,’ she says.

‘But every other waking moment, I’m with my son.’ And the work itself is far from effortless.

‘They don’t see how much planning and preparation goes into it,’ she says.

‘Hours and hours of watching vision, analysing games, going through press conferences.’ ‘Live TV can be a scary place,’ she says.

‘If you make a mistake, if you get something wrong, people come for you.’

Despite firing back at those critics, Holmes remains defiant and steadfast saying she wouldn’t ‘change anything.’
