Three games from glory
It doesn’t get much bigger than this for Arsenal.
Everybody knows about their dreams of winning the Premier League title, but what seems to go under the radar is that they have never won the Champions League.
Not since the induction of its shiny new name in the early 90s, or before that, when it was the European Cup. The Gunners have been craving European glory for their entire existence.
Well, they are three games from getting their hands on Ol’ Big Ears.
For the second successive season, they are in the semi-finals. Last season it ended in heartbreak in Paris, but this season they arrive in Madrid hoping to go not just one, but two steps further.
Tonight they face arguably the weakest – not that they are poor – side left in the competition, Atletico Madrid at the Metropolitano. On paper, this is the best draw they could have got, but football isn’t played on paper.
Anybody who knows Atletico and Diego Simeone knows just how tough this could prove to be for the Gunners.
After last night, though, let’s just hope it ain’t boring!
