Breaking News

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a woman was stabbed at a crematorium.

Police were called to reports of an attack at Carleton Crematorium in Blackpool at about 6.45pm on Tuesday.

A woman in her 30s received a number of stab wounds and was taken to hospital before she was later discharged.

Police said a man in his 30s was arrested in nearby Low Moor Road shortly after the incident and remains in custody.

The victim and the suspect were known to each other, police added.

Detective Inspector Chris Hammond, of Blackpool police, said: “This assault left the victim with a number of injuries and it is only a matter of good fortune that she wasn’t more seriously hurt or even killed.

“Whilst we have made an arrest, our inquiries are ongoing and I would appeal to anyone who can help to come and speak to us.

“I am especially keen to speak to anyone who either witnessed the incident itself or who has any footage such as CCTV, dashcam, ring doorbell or mobile. This could be from the area around the crematorium itself or between the crematorium and the Low Moor Road area.

“We have a team of detectives working on this inquiry and people may see us out and about today as we go about our work. If you have any information or concerns, please feel free to approach and speak to us.”

Anyone with information should call 101 quoting log number 1219 of April 7 or contact independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or online at crimestoppers.org.
