Welcome to the Caroline Dubois show! Boxing superstar treads fine line between confidence and arrogance, writes CHARLOTTE DALY – with ruthless star already lining up next fight after Terri Harper bout

There’s confidence and then there’s Caroline Dubois.

Sat across from the fast-rising world champion, it doesn’t take long to see why opponents bristle, critics mutter about ego, and rivals – most notably Terri Harper – have taken things far beyond polite sporting rivalry.

Because Dubois doesn’t just believe she’s the best. She states it, plainly, repeatedly, and without a flicker of doubt.

‘Honestly, I really don’t know,’ she says when asked where confidence ends and arrogance begins. ‘You’re gonna have to pull up a dictionary on that. But, I don’t believe I’m an arrogant person. I believe everything I say, and I back up everything I do.’

And that, perhaps, is the crux of it.

There’s confidence and then there’s Caroline Dubois, the sister of Daniel Dubois

Dubois isn’t dealing in hypotheticals or hype. By 25, she’s already ticked off achievements most fighters spend a lifetime chasing – an Olympian at 19, a decorated amateur career, and now a world champion pushing for the biggest nights in the sport.

‘I am exactly who I say I am,’ she insists. ‘I was a 19 year old Olympian. As an amateur I was a European Silver medalist. I turned pro at 20 years old. I am a world champion. I am pushing for the biggest fights. I am confident. I know who I am and I am exactly who I say I am. When I step into the ring, I’m not afraid of Terri Harper. I’m not afraid of anything she brings.’

To some, it’s refreshing. To others, it’s grating. In boxing, where bravado is currency, Dubois has gone all-in and then some.

Her feud with Harper has only amplified that perception.

What began as a professional call-out has spiralled into something far more personal: verbal digs, accusations of disrespect, and even physical flashpoints during fight week, with shoves and jostling needing security to step in.

Yet Dubois is adamant the emotion isn’t coming from her side.

‘I feel nothing towards her,’ she says. ‘I genuinely don’t care. Whereas, I am sensing a lot of negativity and all of that emotion is coming from here. It’s not coming from me. I’m excited. I’m here to win. I’m here to take over. I’m here to perform. This is my show. This is the Caroline Dubois show.’

Instead, she paints a very different picture – one where the champion she’s facing is already feeling the pressure.

‘I think it comes from the fact that she’s threatened by me. She senses me coming,’ Dubois says. ‘All the antics… it just shows me that she is scared of me.’

It’s a ruthless assessment, delivered without hesitation. And it feeds directly into the image Dubois is building – not just as a contender, but as an inevitability.

‘I am telling you now, this is my show,’ she says. ‘I’m here to take over and once I’m done with her, I will deal with the rest of them.’

Even those watching from the sidelines aren’t spared. When Alycia Baumgardner publicly backed Harper, Dubois’ response was immediate and chillingly matter-of-fact.

‘I’m coming for her afterwards. She better be praying. She’ll be praying that Terri gets the win. She’ll be on her knees begging and praying because then she won’t have to face me. I will be giving her the same energy for her fight though. You be believe I’m gonna be on her a**.

‘I’m coming for the moment. I’m the biggest threat in the division. I’m the biggest threat in the 135 to 147 division, and they know, and they’re terrified, and they want to see me fall so they don’t have to face me. They want to see someone stamp me out before they have to face it.’

There’s no wink to camera, no sense she’s playing a role. If anything, that’s what makes Dubois so compelling and, to some, so controversial.

Because the question still lingers: where does confidence end?

Dubois, for her part, doesn’t seem interested in answering it.

‘I’m the biggest threat in the division,’ she says. ‘They know. They’re terrified. That’s it.’

Confidence? Arrogance?

Step into the ring with her, and you might just find out.
