The Devil Wears Prada 2 will be released imminently, but some fans have been left nervous about the sequel’s quality after spotting a bizarre detail in its new trailer.
Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci have all returned for the belated follow-up to the 2006 classic, which was adapted from the novel from Lauren Weisberger.
The film followed an ambitious journalist who stumbles her way into a junior assistant role at Runway, the world’s leading fashion magazine, and under the thumb of its intimidating editor-in-chief Miranda Priestley (Streep). The film, and book, were loosely inspired by Weisberger’s real-life job at Vogue, where she worked beneath famed editor Anna Wintour.
The plot for the sequel is currently being kept top secret, but rumours suggest that it takes place amid the decline of the magazine industry, with Miranda and Andy (Hathaway) teaming up once again to stake out new advertisers.
A new trailer for the film, meanwhile, includes further detail on the plot, with Miranda appearing to have been involved in a high-profile scandal, which has left her the subject of derisive memes on the internet.
This has left some fans worried, however, with one shot in the trailer appearing to show a meme of Miranda made from a screenshot from a scene in the first Devil Wears Prada movie – which clearly wouldn’t exist in the universe of The Devil Wears Prada itself.
“So they’re using this iconic Miranda frame from the first film… in the sequel’s universe where that film doesn’t even exist?” tweeted one confused viewer.
“It [actually] makes me so angry when movies do this lazy s***, go through her social media and pick something from there like a TRUE ARTIST,” added another.

It should be said that not everyone has been bothered by the apparent goof – one viewer pithily tweeted: “It must be amazing to have this completely irrelevant thing be a huge problem in your life.”
The screenshot is taken from one of the first film’s most famous scenes, which sees Miranda staring derisively up and down at Andy’s outfit, which includes a “lumpy” cerulean blue sweater.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 is released on 1 May, with Streep recently revealing that efforts were made on the set of the movie to not feature “skeletal” models in runway scenes.
Newcomers to the franchise include Kenneth Branagh, Lucy Liu and Bridgerton star Simone Ashley.
Blunt recently said that working on the sequel was a “rude awakening” due to the fashion she had to wear in it, versus what she wears in her day-to-day life.
Lady Gaga was also spotted on the set of the film, suggesting she has a secret cameo in the film.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 will be released on 1 May, exclusively in cinemas.
