A pair of English darts players had to be separated after clashing following their match at the UK Open on Friday night.

Charlie Manby and James Hurrell squared up to each other on stage in Minehead after the former won 6-4 to advance to the fourth round.

It follows a high-profile incident at the World Darts Championship involving rising star Manby, 20, and Scotsman Cameron Menzies.

After Manby defeated Menzies in the first round, the latter attempted to burn his hand on a pyrotechnic before repeatedly punching a table, leaving his hand covered in blood. It later emerged that he had been emotional following the death of his uncle Gary.

After seeing Hurrell get frustrated at the UK Open, ‘Champagne Charlie’ said: ‘I just don’t think he was happy with me giving it the biggun when there’s a lot riding on it.

‘I am mates with Jammo, sat on his table for ProTours and get on really well with him.

‘He was giving it to me back. That was it really.’

The labourer from Huddersfield added: ‘There’s no friends on the oche.

‘If I want to give it the biggun, I’ll give it the biggun. There’s no restrictions to that.

‘You’ve got loads of people out there giving it the biggun as well.

‘My fans, his fans, just as much as each other.’

It is unclear what exactly sparked the altercation between Manby and Hurrell, 41.

As Manby threw his winning dart, a double four, Hurrell blocked his ears with his fingers and continued to do so when the youngster turned around victorious.

They did shake hands but Manby looked annoyed by his opponent’s antics and followed Hurrell to the table to confront him.

Manby eventually had to be pulled away as he continued to shout. Once Hurrell had gone, he celebrated with the crowd, shouting loudly.
