Everton Football Club are working with Merseyside Police and the Premier League to identify the online trolls who sent ‘threatening, racist and misogynistic abuse’ to the wife of their striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Sandra Calvert-Lewin revealed to her Instagram followers that she had received a torrent of vile messages in response to a post she had shared celebrating her husband and his club.

The Toffees said goodbye to their home of 133 years last Sunday ahead of a move to the brand new Hill Dickinson Stadium on Bramley Dock next season. On a raucous and emotional afternoon, the home side gave a full house what they wanted with two goals by Iliman Ndiaye enough for them to beat Southampton 2-0.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin replaced two-goal hero Ndiaye for the last 15 minutes of the farewell match. The striker has had another injury-hit season and is expected to leave the club at the end of the season when his contract expires.

The 28-year-old scored 30 Premier League goals at Goodison Park, a mark only bettered by Romelu Lukaku (40) and Duncan Ferguson (38).

Expressing her pride at that achievement, wife Sandra posted on Instagram: ’30 goals at Goodison. Top 3 ever. They might not shout it — but we’re proud every single day.’

Sandra, who had her first child with Dominic in August 2023, then revealed that she had received a series of abusive messages from Everton supporters, including some threatening to kill her and her baby. Sandra called out the messages directly and said she was reporting them to the authorities.

In one of her messages, Sandra said: ‘I can take it — but the number of footballers’ wives I know who won’t even leave the house because of people like this is honestly heartbreaking.’

Sandra, who is a model, went on to thank other Toffees fans who had supported her during this time. She said: ‘To the real Evertonians – thank you so much. We love you! Every nasty, abusive comment from internet trolls will be forwarded to the police and the club.’

A statement from the club said: ‘Everton Football Club strongly condemns the threatening, racist, and misogynistic abuse directed towards the wife of Dominic Calvert-Lewin on social media.

‘This sinister and intimidating behaviour is not only deeply hurtful and distressing, it is also criminal — and does not represent the values of Everton or the overwhelming majority of our supporters.

‘The club has a zero-tolerance policy towards all forms of discriminatory and abusive behaviour. We are working closely with Merseyside Police and the Premier League to ensure the individuals responsible are identified and held accountable for their actions.

‘Threats or abuse of any kind — whether online or in person — are completely unacceptable and have no place in our game or in society.

‘The club urges anyone who sees or experiences such behaviour to report it to the authorities and relevant social media platforms immediately. We will continue to offer our full support to Dominic and his family.’
