Small grants to help the most at-risk crafts

Heritage Crafts is inviting craft practitioners and organisations to apply for grants of up to £2,500 for projects that support endangered or critically endangered crafts in the UK.

These crafts are listed in the Heritage Craft Red List and ranked by their risk of disappearing in the UK. Its fifth edition, published in May 2025, assessed 285 crafts and added 20 more to the list – with five crafts now considered extinct, 93 endangered, and 72 critically endangered.

The Endangered Crafts Fund was set up to support those most at-risk crafts, offering grants to fix root problems – such as too few trainees or outdated tools – and secure long-term survival.

Who can apply

You can apply if you are a UK craft practitioner, a solo maker, or a micro-business working on an endangered craft. Some grants are reserved for Essex, East Sussex, West Sussex and Brighton and Hove, but anyone in the UK can apply.

What you can use the grant for

Grants of up to £2,500 can be used towards

  • new ways to make your craft viable – eg through efficient tools or sustainable materials
  • stills transfer via apprentices, training courses, videos or specialist equipment
  • professional development in business skills or advanced craft techniques

Grants cannot be used to cover exhibitions, living costs, marketing, websites or events.

How to apply

Before applying, take time to read through the application questions and frequently asked questions on the Heritage Crafts website.

You can apply by completing an online form, or sending a video or audio recording (up to 15 minutes long) to [email protected].

The deadline for applications is 5pm on Friday 8 May 2026.

For more information, watch a recording of the Heritage Crafts Q&A session on grants, awards and bursaries.
