Yankees closer Devin Williams made a sobering admission on Saturday night as his brutal first season with the Pinstripes continued.
Williams has posted a career-worst 5.73 ERA in New York, and had already registered two blown saves and a loss in his last three games heading into Saturday’s clash with the Astros.
And the pitcher faltered in another big spot against Houston as he allowed three runs in the 10th inning of an eventual 5-2 loss.
Speaking to reporters after the defeat, Williams had a blunt assessment of his form.
‘I’m not making pitches,’ Williams said. ‘It’s pretty simple. I stink right now.’
Williams’ latest cameo represented his fifth straight appearance with at least one run allowed, and marked the 28th earned run he’s allowed this year.
Devin Williams is enduring a brutal debut season for the New York Yankees

Williams is has allowed more runs this year than the previous three seasons combined
As ESPN noted, that figure is two more than he allowed from 2022-24 combined.
On Saturday, Williams allowed an RBI single from Carlos Correa before Taylor Trammell hit a two-run home run.
However, it seems that he remains in the plans of manager Aaron Boone, who admitted he wanted to find ‘softer landing spots’ for the 30-year-old.
‘We’ll try and find good spots for him to get him back to being a big part of the pen, which he should be,’ Boone said.
It’s been a disappointing season for two-time All-Star Williams, who was traded to the Yankees in December.
He later inked a one-year, $8.6million with the franchise coming off of an impressive 2024, in which he posted a 1.25 ERA with the Brewers.
The Yankees, who fell to 62-55 with Saturday’s loss, have also been flagging of late.
New York is just 20-30 in their last 50 games and trail the Blue Jays by 5.5 games for the AL East lead.
They’ll host the Astros again on Sunday.
