Wrexham are reportedly targeting a Championship veteran who was once on the books at Liverpool before the end of the transfer window.

The ambitious Welsh side, owned by Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac, formerly known as Rob McElhenney, suffered heartbreak in their first second division match in 43 years, conceding in the 96th minute to lose 2-1 away at Southampton.

Wrexham also face an anxious wait to see how severe an injury £2million summer signing Kieffer Moore picked up after he was forced off with ankle ligament damage.

With three weeks left to go in the summer transfer window, Wrexham are not done yet and they are said to be chasing an experienced defender to shore things up.

Boss Phil Parkinson has already recruited former Premier League captain Conor Coady and ex-top flight goalkeeper Danny Ward, who joined from Leicester City for a combined £2m.

Now, according to the Sun, Parkinson is pushing to bring Sheffield United’s Jack Robinson to North Wales.

The report details how 31-year-old Sheffield United captain Robinson is ‘keen’ on a move to the newly-promoted side.

Talks between the two clubs was reported to have been at an advanced stage last week.

But Anel Ahmedhodzic’s move to Feyenoord has complicated further exits with Sheffield United struggling to bring in reinforcements.

Wrexham are said to remain hopeful of striking a deal for Robinson, who started in Liverpool’s academy and is approaching almost 160 appearances for Sheffield United since arriving from Nottingham Forest in 2020.

Parkinson has targeted experienced Championship campaigners for the club’s first return to the second tier in 43 years, with Moore, Coady and Ward joined by Lewis O’Brien, Josh Windass and Ryan Hardie during a busy off-season.
