Wrexham have confirmed their club record signing of striker Nathan Broadhead from Ipswich Town.

Broadhead has signed a four-year deal and returns to the club where he made his early career steps as an academy player.

He is the ninth toy signed in an open-walleted summer for the Welsh side, who want to make a serious impression in the Championship after three consecutive promotions.

They had already added Premier League experience in Conor Coady, Kieffer Moore, Danny Ward, and Lewis O’Brien, who was their previous record signing.

And now they have bolstered their frontline with Broadhead in a deal worth an initial £7.5million, with £2.5m in add-ons, according to ESPN.

Broadhead won consecutive promotions with Ipswich and also helped Sunderland out of League One in 2021-22.

He said: ‘It’s been a long time coming and I’m delighted to join the Club.

‘Belief is going to be the biggest thing for us this season. We want to get everyone from North Wales down to the STōK Cae Ras and to show that belief in us.’

Manager Phil Parkinson said: ‘I’m delighted to welcome Nathan to the Club, he’s a local boy who had a real desire to come and play for his hometown Club.

‘We’re all looking forward to working with him in the coming seasons.’

Broadhead’s last Championship campaign was in 2023-24, when he scored 13 goals and provided four assists as Ipswich came second.

He struggled for consistency in the top flight last season, scoring two goals as he was in and out of the squad, often coming off the bench.

The Welshman, who has 14 caps for his country, started his professional career at Everton but only managed two appearances for them.

Instead he was farmed out on a series of loans, spending time with Burton Albion, Sunderland, and Wigan Athletic.

He joins a strike force at Wrexham which includes, Jay Rodriguez, Moore, Jack Marriott, Ollie Palmer, and Ryan Hardie.

Wrexham have had a typically anarchic start to the season, first going to Southampton and almost upsetting the relegated side before two stoppage-time goals saw them lose 2-1.

Then, in one of the most dramatic Carabao Cup first round ties of recent years, they beat Hull City 5-3 on penalties after a 3-3 draw – which was only achieved after to stoppage-time goals in 70 seconds by Palmer.
