An up-and-coming boxer is now awake and breathing on her own just days after being put in a medically induced coma following a vicious knockout.
Isis Sio, a 19-year-old flyweight boxer, was in a bout against 21-year-old Jocelyn Camarillo in the first matchup of ProBoxTV’s card at the National Orange Show Event Center.
Sio suffered a series of head shots and fell to the mat unconscious. The fight was stopped and she was seen convulsing while being stretchered out of the arena.
She was taken to Loma Linda University Health Medical Center for further treatment, including being placed in a medically induced coma. But a statement from the boxing promotion was a positive one.
‘We have some promising news to share. Isis is no longer in a medically induced coma, has been taken off the ventilator, and is now breathing on her own,’ the statement read.
‘We are awaiting further updates from her medical team.’

This is the 19-year-old’s second consecutive knockout loss in her brief professional boxing career. Back in January, she was stopped by body punches.
She drew Camarillo – who stands at an undefeated 6-0, but had not scored a knockout until Saturday’s fight.
Sio, who was knocked out just over a minute into Saturday’s bout, turned pro back in September and owns a record of 1-3.
