Wolves star Matheus Cunha has issued a furious response to a reporter on social media after he was accused of ignoring away fans following his side’s defeat to Chelsea on Monday night.
Cunha, 25, took to X, formerly Twitter, to defend his actions after his side’s 3-1 loss to the Blues at Stamford Bridge left them 17th in the Premier League table, only above the relegation zone on goal difference.
He did so after Liam Keen, a Wolves correspondent for Wolverhampton-based news outlet the Express & Star, posted on the platform to note that the striker’s manager Vitor Pereira ‘did not like Matheus Cunha’s body language’.
The journalist then issued a series of follow-up tweets in which he praised Cunha for being a ‘fantastic player’ but criticised him for his ‘poor’ body language.
He then added that the Brazilian went ‘straight down the tunnel’ after the final whistle was blown.
Responding to the accusations on X around two hours after the final whistle, an outraged Cunha seethed: ‘Liar. I went to applaud them, congratulated the referees and the opposing players.

He added: ‘Then I went to the tunnel. Don’t ever come and ask me to give you an interview again.’
Cunha’s fiery statement came as he was criticised by Wolves boss Pereira for his behaviour as captain of the side.
‘I had this conversation in the dressing room,’ Pereira said. ‘He can be frustrated because he wants to win, but everybody in the team wants to win.
‘I don’t like this body language. I want someone as a captain trying to help the team – running, suffering, fighting together. This is something I can understand. Next time, I will not understand.’
On Cunha walking straight down the tunnel at full-time, Pereira added: ‘This is something that cannot happen again.’
Asked if his head has been turned amid January interest, the Wolves boss answered: ‘It’s human that the players start to be a little bit… it’s normal in football.’
The Wolves skipper’s reaction to the incident comes amid speculation that he may looking for a move away from the club.
He has been linked with a move to several Premier League clubs after 10 goals in 21 Premier League matches so far this season.

Pereira added that Mario Lemina will not play for the club while the January transfer window is open, with the midfielder reportedly agitating for a transfer.
Lemina previously asked not to play in their 3-0 defeat at Newcastle last Wednesday and was absent from the team that lost to Chelsea on Monday night.
he has since apologised to Pereira and the rest of the team, adding that he is ‘ready to do his best for the team’ until the situation is resolved.
Saudi Pro League club have expressed interest in signing him on a free transfer before the window shuts on February 3 but Wolves are reluctant to entertain such a deal.
