WNBA star Angel Reese is on the move after the Chicago Sky agreed to a blockbuster trade following their fiery feud last season.

Reese, who sparked outrage when she publicly criticized the Sky and threatened to quit the team last year, will play her third season in the WNBA with a new franchise.

The 23-year-old was reportedly traded to the Atlanta Dream on Monday in exchange for first-round picks in 2027 and 2028. As part of the trade, Atlanta also receives the right to swap second-round picks with Chicago in 2028.

The forward confirmed the news herself, taking to X to celebrate the news as she shared two images of herself in the Dream’s red jerseys.

‘An Angel’s DREAM,’ she wrote. ‘ATL WHAT UP?!’

‘I’m beyond grateful for the opportunity to join the Atlanta Dream organization,’ she later added in a press release from the Dream.

‘I’m focused on continuing to grow my game, competing at the highest level, connecting with the fans, and giving everything I’ve got to the Dream.’

Reese was drafted by the Sky with the seventh overall pick in the 2024 Draft – the same class as former No. 1 pick and her longtime rival, Caitlin Clark – after leading LSU to the 2023 National Championship.

The two-time All-Star recorded 49 career double-doubles while averaging 14.0 points and 12.8 rebounds per game throughout her first two seasons in the league with the Sky.

She also earned All-Rookie Team honors in 2024 after setting WNBA rookie records for rebounds per game (13.1) and consecutive double-doubles (15).

However, Reese fueled speculation that she could force her way out of the Windy City last September when she publicly voiced her fury at missing out on the WNBA playoffs.

She took aim at the Chicago Sky, vowing that she wouldn’t be ‘settling for the same s*** we did this year’ after the franchise failed to make the playoffs for a second straight year.

She fanned the flames when she later told the Chicago Tribune that she ‘might have to move in a different direction and do what’s best for me.’

Reese was hit with a suspension for the first half of a game by the team for her comments but didn’t return to the court for the remainder of the regular season.

The Sky’s season came to a close with Reese missing her fourth consecutive game. The franchise listed her with a back injury for the final three games.

Back in September, Sky general manager Jeff Pagliocca had dismissed the speculation, insisting that the team and Reese had ‘closed that chapter’ and that she would be remaining part of the roster.

However, it now appears that the Sky were willing to part ways with the star amid their tense relationship ahead of the 2026 WNBA Draft.

The Dream head into the 2026 season looking to build on a historic campaign. In 2025, Atlanta finished with a franchise-best 30 wins and a .682 winning percentage under new head coach Karl Smesko.

‘Angel’s ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor is elite,’ said Smesko. ‘Her energy, toughness and instincts will thrive in our system, and we’re excited to integrate her into the style of play we are constructing here in Atlanta.’

‘Angel is a dynamic talent and a perfect fit for what we are building in Atlanta,’ added Dream General Manager Dan Padover.

‘She has already proven herself as one of the most impactful players in the league, and her competitiveness, production and drive to win align seamlessly with our vision. This is an exciting moment for our organization and our fans.’
