Wigan Warriors captain Vicky Molyneux has announced she will retire after the Super League Grand Final against St Helens on 5 October.

Molyneux, 37, won eight England caps, including in their first full international against France in 2007.

The loose forward took a break from the sport to start a family before joining Wigan in 2019.

Now after seven seasons with the Warriors, she is calling it a day in a season in which she co-captained Wigan to their first women’s Challenge Cup success at Wembley and the League Leaders’ Shield.

“The last few years have been fantastic and I knew I could go out there and do what I’ve always done,” she told the club’s website, external.

“As time passes, sadly my head and my heart are still 100% invested – my body is just not keeping up with it.”

“Hopefully I can finish on a high now lifting a trophy in the Grand Final.”
