A new exhibition opens on Friday 9 May at Shropshire Museums Collections Centre, Parkway Ludlow.

What We Wore During the War showcases a selection of military and civilian uniforms and accessories from the Second World War to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day.

Drawn from the collections of Shropshire Museums the exhibition also features wreckage from a fatal aircraft crash and shrapnel recovered from the Shropshire countryside during the War. Along with tales of local people’s experiences this exhibition will commemorate the efforts of the generations who lived through Britain’s darkest hour.

L-R: WVS Dress, Red Cross Coat and Army Great Coat.

Featuring military uniforms from the British Army, RAF and Navy alongside civilian clothing worn by members of the Red Cross, Women’s Land Army and Air Raid Precautions units.

The free exhibition is open to the public daily during Ludlow Library open hours (Monday-Wednesday, Friday and Saturday morning) in the lower gallery.

A model of the HMS Ludlow will be on display from Wednesday 14 May to support the fundraising efforts of the local community who are currently raising money to have the Ensign flag from the HMS Ludlow conserved.

Step back in time, reflect on the efforts of ordinary people during an extraordinary period and remember those who secured our freedom from tyranny.

Exhibition opens Friday 9 May and will be open until December 2025.
