- Clint Gutherson joined the Dragons on three-year deal
- Left Parramatta after nine seasons in blue and gold
- Joked his mother has ‘burnt all his Eels training gear’
Clint Gutherson has moved on following his departure from the Eels – but it appears his mother isn’t on the same page.
Gutherson, 30, has joined the Dragons on a three-year deal after he was told by new Parramatta coach Jason Ryles he wouldn’t be the first choice fullback in 2025.
Affectionately known by many footy fans as ‘The King’, Gutherson quickly agreed to terms with the Red V, and was recently named co-captain alongside fellow recruit Damien Cook.
It left Gutherson with plenty of Eels training gear he no longer needs – and while family and friends snapped up the attire, it was a different story with his mother.
‘I have a lot of friends there (Parramatta) that were always asking for gear. So it was pretty easy to get rid of all my Parra stuff….pack it up, get it to them,’ Gutherson said on SEN Radio.
‘I know my mum, on the other side (of things), she burnt all of her (Parra gear). She was at the other end.

Now co-captain of the Dragons, Gutherson joked his mother has ‘burnt all his Eels training gear’ following his swift exit from the club

The fullback spent nine seasons at Parramatta, which included the NRL 2022 Grand Final (pictured)
‘It was pretty easy to get rid of it all.’
Gutherson – who was joking about his passionate mother – also told News Corp he has no ill-feeling towards Ryles.
‘None whatsoever. It’s just the way it goes sometimes,’ he said.
‘I’ve text him a few times and wished him [good] luck and same to all the boys.
‘You want to see him succeed.
‘Rugby league is a hard enough sport as it is…..you don’t need to make it any harder by hating on anyone.’
Gutherson will be the enemy in round five when the Dragons tackle the Eels at Commbank Stadium on April 5.
The NSW Blues representative made his NRL debut with the Sea Eagles in 2013 against the Panthers before moving to Parramatta in 2015.
