Andy Burnham has hailed his landslide victory over Reform UK in the crucial Makerfield by-election as a “turning point” as he insists Labour has a “final chance to change”.

Nigel Farage’s party was dealt a blow with Mr Burnham winning the by-election by 9,231 votes, despite Reform UK performing best in last month’s local elections.

As the now former Greater Manchester mayor is set to return to Westminster, and likely to officially challenge Sir Keir Starmer, allies of Mr Burnham have called on the prime minister to hand over the keys to No 10.

But what does Mr Bunham’s win mean for Sir Keir?
