We don’t have time to ‘gel’, says Miovski… winning games is the only thing that matters at Rangers right now

Bojan Miovski has admitted that Russell Martin’s new-look side simply don’t have any time left to gel as they seek to turn round a dismal start to the season.

Rangers have just one league win from six Premiership matches, with the air of crisis at the club deepening on the back of a second Europa League defeat away to Sturm Graz on Thursday.

Although there was a degree of acceptance among the fan base that it might take time for the 13 players the manager signed in the summer to click, the team have been unable to get up any head of steam.

And while Miovski has only featured in six matches following his move from Girona, the 26-year-old appreciates that the squad are up against it as they seek to win over an increasingly disaffected support.

Asked ahead of Sunday’s trip to Falkirk if he still felt confident that things could turn in a positive way,’ the North Macedonian international said: ‘Yeah, of course. We have good players. We have a really good squad. I think at the moment we don’t show this on the pitch or we are not consistent.

‘In some parts of the game in Graz we showed that we have a really good squad and we can hurt everyone. So, we need to start to have this consistency because in this club we must win games.

‘In this football club we don’t have time. We need to start winning games.’

Martin has been unable to improve the team defensively, with the loss in Austria the seventh away match this season in which they haven’t kept a clean sheet.

That woeful run on the road now stretches back to December 8 last year when the team led by Philippe Clement left Dingwall with a 3-0 win against Ross County.

Insistent that the responsibility for having a strong defensive base rested on the shoulders of every outfield player, Miovski added: ‘Look, the defensive thing starts from the striker. So, I think we all together need to defend the goal. It’s not only for defenders.

‘I think in the Livingston game, the first half was good. The second half was not good. And in Graz the first half was not good, but the second half was good. We need to start to have consistency. Because when you lose that, if you are disconnected for one second, they’ll punish you, especially in this competition.’

The defeat in Austria intensified the heat on Martin, with the travelling support again demanding that he was relieved of his duties at full-time.

Asked if he had a message for those fans who are seeing little evidence of progress, Miovski said: ‘We feel frustrated as well because we are not winning games. In this football club, you need to win games.

‘Of course, we will give everything from every player, give everything on the pitch to start winning games.’

Having crashed out of the Champions League 9-1 on aggregate to Club Brugge, Martin’s team now sit in 32nd in the 36-team Europa League group.

Miovski, however, still believes the Ibrox men can qualify for the knock-out rounds like last season. He said: ‘Yeah, of course. There are still six games to play.

‘We need to show a better performance, of course, and as a team we need to start winning games.’
