Kai Rooney showed off his burgeoning football talent once again after scoring a brace to help Manchester United Under 15s to silverware against Chelsea.

United’s youngsters beat the Blues’ 3-1 to win the Premier League National Floodlit Super Cup, having previously beaten Manchester City 4-3 to reach the final.

Rooney, son of United great Wayne, has played a starring role in the Red Devils’ triumph, helping his side comeback from 3-0 down against City before scoring twice against the Blues.

Not only did the 15-year-old score twice to help his side win, he also assisted Jodie Nganga, playing a hand in all three goals.

Rooney is doing his best to follow in the footsteps of his father Wayne and is making waves in the Red Devils academy, having initially joined in 2020.

He clearly has talent – in his first full season he scored 56 goals for the youth set-up. Over the summer fans even jokingly called for him to join the first team at Old Trafford after seeing him take part in some drills, with a video showing his great finishing.

But earlier this year, the youngster’s mother Coleen, revealed that he is already feeling the heat because of his footballing heritage and gets abused by fans because of his father.

Foul chants are something his father has had plenty of experience of over his career as a player and manager.

Wayne is a tough act to follow but Kai appears to be making good inroads at youth level.

His dad is a five-time Premier League champion, United’s all-time top scorer with 253 goals, and even won the Champions League in 2008.

After Kai recently scored a spectacular solo goal for United’s U17s against Real Sociedad, Wayne took to social media to show his support.

He wrote: ‘Proud of @kairooney.10. Great comeback from his team last night and an extra-time winner always special. Keep working hard son.’
