- Wales host England in their final game of the Six Nations on Saturday
- It will be Matt Sherratt’s final game after coming in for Warren Gatland
- Sherratt has not ended the losing run with defeats by Ireland and Scotland so far
Matt Sherratt was moved to the verge of tears on Thursday as he opened up on what the experience of coaching Wales has meant to him and his family.
Sherratt’s last game in interim charge will be against England in Cardiff on Saturday after he was parachuted in midway through this Six Nations following the departure of Warren Gatland.
Sherratt has overseen defeats by Ireland and Scotland so far. The England match is a chance for him to not only go out on a high, but also end Wales’ current losing run which now stands at 16 matches.
‘I’ve loved it. It’s been brilliant for me and my family,’ Sherratt said of his short Wales stint.
‘Seeing my family enjoy coming to the games is a massive part of it personally. I know we haven’t had the results, but there’s been a huge amount of effort and positivity in camp. We’ll keep plugging away and hopefully that will turn at some point.’
Sherratt has made two changes for England to the side beaten by Scotland, with Joe Roberts and Aaron Wainwright starting on the wing and at flanker respectively.

‘It won’t need an emotional build-up. There’s massive excitement in the group to play against England at home,’ said Sherratt.
‘I would love to sign off with a win. It would be brilliant. That’s a massive motivation. If that win comes, it would give everyone a massive lift, especially against England at home.’
The Scarlets on Thursday confirmed the signing of Exeter centre Joe Hawkins, who has been ineligible for Test duty since moving to Sandy Park.
Hawkins’ move to Llanelli means he will be available again for Test selection from the start of next season.
