Vitor Pereira’s position as Wolves boss came under further pressure on Saturday as he appeared to cast doubts on the mental and physical condition of his players after another dire defeat.

Wolves made it 10 games without a win at the start of the campaign as they crumbled to a 3-0 defeat at Fulham that Pereira labelled their ‘worst’ of his tenure. They are eight points adrift at the bottom of the table.

Executive chairman Jeff Shi has so far been reluctant to dismiss Pereira, who stayed in the dressing room with his players long after the final whistle. Strikes from Ryan Sessegnon and Harry Wilson plus an own-goal from Yerson Mosquera did for Wolves, who also had Emmanuel Agbadou sent off 10 minutes before half-time.

‘Tactically, technically, physically, we weren’t good enough. I don’t know why. We all need to take responsibility for this,’ said Pereira. ‘We were not in conditions physically to face Fulham. Tactically we made some mistakes and technically we were not there in the best level.

‘I would like to understand what the players felt on the pitch and I must speak with them. We need to have a conversation at the next training session and I will try to work out what was missing here.

‘I am not proud at the end of the game. We know we can and must play better.’

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Sam Johnstone tore into his team-mates. He said: ‘It’s just not good enough and we need to do better. We should be embarrassed. They might not want to hear it but we apologise to the fans.

‘I think pretty much everything went wrong. We go down to 10 early, we concede early. I think it’s difficult to find words. There’s a lot of emotions. It’s very difficult.’

Fulham boss Marco Silva added: ‘It was a very important one for us, back home where we have been very strong.’
