Viktor Gyokeres’ proposed move to Arsenal could fall through, according to reports from Portuguese media.

However, MailSport understands that Sporting were hoping to drive up the player’s price but Gyokeres still has his sights set on joining the Gunners.

According to Portuguese outlet Record, there is a disagreement regarding bonuses being offered to the player.

Sporting are said to be demanding €10million, which Arsenal are allegedly reluctant to include on top of a £62.4million transfer fee.

The report goes on to claim that, while all scenarios are still open, there is ‘a serious risk that negotiations will collapse completely’.

The latest update in the transfer saga comes after Mikel Arteta appeared to have finally secured his target.

Varandas had rejected Arsenal’s last offer of £60million all in for Gyokeres and warned them they would not get the Sweden international unless they upped their offer and promised a greater sum up front as part of the bid’s structure.

The clubs are now close to agreement on a deal worth an initial £55million, with a further £7.4million in add-ons, while Gyokeres has agreed a five-year contract.

Arsenal hope the move will be sealed in time for Gyokeres to fly to Asia for their pre-season tour at end of the week.

Arsenal are also stepping up talks with Valencia for centre back Cristhian Mosquera and are increasingly confident of reaching agreement with 18-year old winger Ethan Nwaneri over a new contract.

Elsewhere, Noni Madueke will undergo a medical on Monday ahead of his £52million switch from Chelsea, with Arsenal’s next target is likely to be Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze.

Gyokeres scored 54 goals for Sporting last term across all competitions, and is rated as one of the most prolific forwards in Europe.

Since making a £20m switch from Coventry to Sporting in 2023, Gyokeres has gone on a remarkable scoring spree in Portugal, netting 97 times in just 102 appearances across two seasons.

Gyokeres scored 43 goals for Coventry in two-and-a-half seasons, having initially joined on loan from Brighton.

He has previously spoken of his desire to return to the English top flight, to atone for his fruitless spell with the Seagulls. Gyokeres played just eight times, scoring only once, in three-and-half-years on Brighton’s books.

The Swedish international’s potential move would continue what has already been a busy summer for the Gunners as they look to clinch a first Premier League title in 21 years next season.

Arsenal have been busy so far this summer as they look to increase their depth ahead of the 2025-26 season.

Headlining their summer arrivals so far is Martin Zubimendi, who left LaLiga side Real Sociedad in a deal worth £60million.

They have also brought in Kepa Arrizabalaga as understudy to No1 goalkeeper David Raya as well as adding Danish midfielder Christian Norgaard.
