The good news keeps coming for J.J. McCarthy following his stunning NFL debut, as he and his fiancee Katya are set to welcome a baby boy.
The couple announced back in May that they were expecting a child in September, and that is now coming to fruition as the quarterback skipped practice on Thursday.
According to The Athletic’s Alec Lewis, McCarthy was at a local hospital with Katya in preparation of the birth, as head coach Kevin O’Connell informed reporters.
He added that O’Connell was ‘pumped’ to share the news with the media.
The couple have been together dating back to their high school days more than five years ago, and have been engaged since January 2024.
And they shared an exciting update to Instagram on May 21 as they announced they were expecting a baby boy.

McCarthy led three touchdown drives in the fourth quarter on Monday as the Vikings won 27-24
‘The best surprises come when you least expect them. Our sweet baby boy is arriving in September and we couldn’t be happier,’ they wrote in an Instagram post of the quarterback holding his fiancee’s baby bump.’
Earlier this week, McCarthy pulled off an impressive fourth quarter comeback to lead the Vikings to a 27-24 win at the Bears.
Minnesota hadn’t scored a touchdown through three quarters, and trailed 17-6 after McCarthy threw a pick-six to Chicago’s Nahshon Wright.
But McCarthy and the Vikings offense came alive in the final quarter, as he led three touchdown drives to stun the crowd at Soldier Field.
The former University of Michigan star ultimately finished the game with 143 yards passing and three total touchdowns (one rushing).

Katya will hope that her fiancee can keep up his momentum this weekend vs. the Falcons
And Katya took to Instagram afterwards to praise her longtime partner.
Re-sharing a Vikings graphic that commemorated McCarthy’s first NFL win, Kuropas wrote on her Instagram story: ‘What a night!!’ So proud of you. Keep showin em.’
McCarthy, who missed the entirety of his rookie season last year with a torn meniscus, spoke after the game about the ‘long journey’ to his first NFL start.
‘I think it’s been 609 days, I think I saw since my last competitive football game [at Michigan], which was the national championship. So, it’s been a while of being just in the training room, watching a lot of film, learning the playbook and trying to master that. At the end of the day, it’s such a blessing to be an NFL football player and play in this league.’
The Vikings will look to move to 2-0 this weekend when they host the Falcons.
